Re: Eligibility for Lecturer Development Program
In line with the announcement by Dr. Chayo at the recent Academic Committee meeting, the committee instituted the Lecturer Development Program. Qualification for the program is based on the level of their performance measured with the End-of-Term evaluations survey. Attached in this memo are the findings of the survey assessment including strengths and areas in need of improvement. The analysis of the data revealed that you meet the minimum qualification criteria for participation in the Lecturer Development Program, with seven of the ten items having a mean that is greater than the group mean as shown in table 1. The items colored in blue indicate that the mean score is higher than the group mean, while those in red indicate a mean that is lower than the group mean. Table 2 shows the percentage distribution of responses per item. Since the qualification score for this evaluation is 70%, the items in which he received over 70% of the students who selected “Agree” or “Strongly Agree are deemed as strong areas and indicated with a blue-colored font. The areas with a score below 70% and the mean score are lower than the group mean are seen as areas that need improvement. Figure 1 is showing a column chart of response percentage distribution.
Strengths
The following items on the questionnaire areas are strengths, the percentage of people who selected agree and strongly in these areas are over 70%, and the mean scores are higher than the average mean. The students appreciated that the syllabus was well written and easy to follow and understand.
- I had a clear understanding of what I was expected to learn (Item 1)
- The course syllabus clearly stated what was required in the course (Item 2)
- The course materials were presented in an understandable manner (Item 5)
- The instructor appeared well prepared for each class (Item 6)
- Considering the nature of the material: the instructor made the class interesting (Item 7)
- The instructor returned graded tests and homework within a reasonable time (Item 8)
- I would recommend this course and instructor to other students (Item 10)
Recommendations
On the following items listed below you scored below the group mean or below 70% (“agree and strongly agree”). Consequently, it is recommended highly that you improve in these areas. It is worthy to note that the lecturer scored above 70% (“agree and strongly agree”) in items 4 and 9, but they mainly included because it is lower than the group mean.
- The instructor encouraged participation and questions from students (Item 3)
- The instructor answered students’ questions in a thoroughly (Item 4)
- The instructor was available for consultation outside of class hours (Item 9)
Congratulations on receiving a positive teaching score and I would encourage you to apply for financial support to be able to attend seminars that will help you become even a better teacher.
