Introduction

Technology has, without a doubt, altered the way we conduct our lives. It has influenced nearly all aspects of life and changed the way of living (Vallor, 2016). Unquestionably, technology plays a significant role in every field of life. People do not have to perform the majority of the traditionally manual tasks since they can now be automated. Modern technology has made it easier and increased the accuracy level of the various processes. Technological changes have brought significant changes and improvements, especially in the education sector, where it has impacted the ways of teaching and brought may positive outcomes (Au-Yong-Oliveira et al.,2018).

Multimedia learning is an education process that doesn’t require the student to be at a fixed position to study. It involves using opportunities that are as a result of cell phones and other gadgets that are portable (Pedro et al.,2018). Examples of these gadgets are tablets and laptops. M-Learning has transformed the learning process. There has been increased use of mobile phones in the world, and many people know, have, and can operate the phones. This has made it an opportunity for educational institutions to exploit and incorporate it into the learning process. Though M- learning is supported by most people, it still gets some critics as it also has its demerits. Some people promote learning, while others are against the process. This paper will focus on mobile learning, which is a trend in educational technology, impact on the learning process.

Impact of M-learning on Learning, Teaching, and Training Process

The increased use of the internet has made it possible to teach students in different places, countries, and even continents. Globalization has become a common trend in the current world, primarily due to the increased use of mobile. As a result, they have been a great change in the ways of impacting knowledge and learning (Delgado et al., 2015). The education sector has considered this and has incorporated the use of mobile learning to teach. This involves the use of devices such as laptops and smartphones. M-Learning has become an essential aspect for educational institutions as they can teach students all over the world without them being in the same place.

M-Learning has become a great tool in the educational sector, impacting the mode of teaching. It takes no consideration of the place where the student is located, provided there is an internet connection. M-Learning has a tremendous impact on teaching, learning, and training, which can either be negative or positive (Gezgin, 2019). The use of m-learning can be said to be collaborative because it allows the students to share ideas. It has become more economical for students because their expenses, such as those of acquiring books, have been cut down.

Mobile learning has provided new opportunities for learners because they don’t require much to enroll in various institutions. Compared to physical enrolling and taking classes in the institutions’ premises, mobile learning is much cheaper (Khan et al., 2015). Convenience has also been possible, especially on the side of students because they don’t have to carry books. This has proved the effectiveness of mobile learning rendering it capable of revolutionizing the entire learning process for the better. This means that the impacts of mobile learning on the knowledge, teaching, and training methods are real.

The new approach of incorporating mobile in learning has rendered the old methods of learning more irrelevant and outdated it has made learning become a continuous process (Gan, Menkhoff, & Smith, 2015). The approach has benefited more people, as many students can enroll in a class, not having to face the challenge of congestion in classes. Due to this, the living standards of many people have improved. Mobile learning has transformed the learning process bringing with it more benefits.

The use of phones and laptops has made it possible for students to complete their assignments on time, and the instructions for these assignments are downloaded through these devices. (Domingo & Garganté, 2016). This has made the learning process better as a lot of time is saved. The instructors and teachers are relieved of the burden of planning for practical lessons and adhering to tight schedules (Teodorescu, 2015).  All these benefits are a result of modern technologies which continue to present new opportunities in the education sector.

Mobile learning is changing the curriculum to the one that provides the necessary and reasonable information and practical ideas to students. The information and ideas that the approach is providing are applicable in the real-life world. The changes have become common because mobile learning is experiencing continued growth and development each day (Burden & Kearney, 2017). Mobile learning will bring changes to the current learning practices, which will make learning easier and will only give relevant and reasonable information to the learners.

Delivery of new ideas to students due to world development is another impact that M-Leaning has on teaching and training processes. The current developments have made new ideas and concepts common and readily available. (Fakomogbon, & Bolaji, 2017). The need to provide the learners with the latest information is an impact that m-learning is likely to bring with it to the process. (Elfeky & Masadeh, 2016). This means that the world will transfigure and develop faster.

The utilization of mobile learning is a methodology that can improve the information conveyed to the students. The learner can depend on the information and during the learning process (Alqahtani and Mohammad, 2015). The methodology will likewise decrease the complexity of learning materials. With a smartphone, a person can get instructions and information about the course. Mobile learning is considered by most people as an approach that can improve the learning process because it is capable of providing up to date information and solutions to various issues. (Briz-Ponce et al.,2017).

The classroom setting approach involved the teachers and students being physically present. The teachers gave guidance and instructions to follow the students directly through face to face communication. Though physically present, some students did not participate during lessons. This has been reduced through mobile learning, which involves the students and teachers. The teachers and students share their roles when using mobile learning. (Traxler & Crompton, 2015). The exchange of ideas and feedback makes the learning process a success and brings many benefits to the learners. The teachers this time will only send information and course material required; thus, the schedule will not be rigid. (El-Hussein & Cronje, 2010). The students will submit their assignments and study following the instructions given to them.

Mobile learning is becoming a common trend in learning institutions due to the benefits it accrues. It has positive impacts on learning and teaching processes. The students can quickly get information for their course wherever they are through their phones. On the side of the instructors or teachers, mobile learning has reduced their roles and duties, giving them a flexible schedule and, at the same time, helping them to deliver the best to their students. (McQuiggan et al.,2015). This makes mobile learning a practical approach to learning.

Many individuals condemn mobile learning because it affects the role of learning as a social practice (Kukulska‐Hulme and Viberg, 2018). Improvement in communication skills is one of the advantages of being in a classroom setting. A teacher should have the skills required to9 pass knowledge to the students. The responsibilities of a teacher are made inadequate by the new approach, which is mobile learning. Although M-learning gives new opportunities for better teaching practices, it also influences the objectives of teaching. This is why many specialists and people against the M-learning approach. They suggest that convectional or traditional means of teaching should continue to be used. Another disadvantage of mobile learning is that it gives summarized information for students to use. It is not as detailed as when in a classroom setting.

Conclusion

Due to advancements in technology and globalization, there has been an increased use of mobile phones, which have provided an opportunity for educational institutions to use in imparting knowledge. Mobile learning, which is one of the ways through which the institutions have embraced technological change, has made it possible for students to take learn when in different locations with each other and also far from the instructor. The approach has made it easier to teach. The mobile learning approach is less expensive compared to the traditional means of teaching. The M-learning has a significant impact on the learning process which addresses challenges faced in learning institutions
